Let me just begin by saying that despite rumors that the long-awaited sequel to the Re-Animator series, House of Re-Animator, is dead and buried, I will hold on to some glimmer of hope that those rumors are not true. The word sequel is often a dirty word, but I genuinely enjoyed each Re-Animator movie enough that I find it difficult to choose which was the best one.

I watched them in order, starting with Re-Animator, as one should. It’s based on an H.P. Lovecraft story, but I haven’t read it, so I can’t compare. Jeffrey Combs plays this great creepy medical student character who’s obsessed with defeating death, which he views as a disease rather than the inevitable. I knew Jeffrey Combs from various roles on Star Trek, namely Weyoun and Shran, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that he had a talent for acting early in his career. I was not so pleased when I watched Night of the Comet with Robert Beltran, though that could have just been a case of bad writing. Anyway, I could continue writing a plot analysis, but there’s a perfectly good one on wikipedia, should you choose to read it. I recommend you watch the series.

A lot of the internets say that H.P. Lovecraft stories can’t be adapted for film because it would be too hard. I have it, by the way, should you ever want to read it; though I haven’t read it myself.

I would like to read it, but I haven’t lifted my self-inflicted ban on borrowing books yet so it’ll have to wait. I’ve got to finish Brave New World and get through Mother Tongue before I lift the ban.
