stuff that’s happened
After Thursday’s meeting, I went to class and then went home early. I took and extra long weekend, but I made sure to tell my boss that my time off had nothing to do the morning’s unpleasantness. He laughed and said that he knew because he’d seen my request before the meeting. He’s playing all angles and covering his behind, as any good businessman does. My supervisor went home a few minutes after the meeting was over and I didn’t want anyone thinking that my departure was for the same reason.
When I returned from my long weekend, I noticed my supervisor’s desk was nearly empty. Something was wrong but no one told me anything. She sat at her desk all morning in the dark. I heard the secretary making conversation with her, and then crying, but I couldn’t make any of it out. On my way out to class I asked her if she was okay and she said she’d fill me in later. When I returned, she told me that she took the assistant director up on his offer and asked to be transferred to another department. So that’s the new big news at work. My supervisor asked to be demoted and either I’ll end up with a new supervisor or I’ll become the new supervisor.
Several other things happened on my long weekend. I ordered a new phone after groping up the two I’d narrowed my selection down to. I ended up choosing the Motorola Q9h. My other choice was the AT&T Tilt, but I decided I could do without wi-fi (and touch screen, I was more concerned with wi-fi though) after experiencing the two in the store. Those who know me know that I carry everything in my pockets. The Tilt is not pocket-friendly. And while I initially liked the idea of a tilting screen, if Sidney ever got her destructive little hands on it, that phone would be a goner. Plus, I went with a refurb and saved a ton of money. The refurb discount isn’t as great on the Tilt. I love my new phone.
But my new phone didn’t arrive until Tuesday, meaning I had the itch all weekend. I ended up buying myself an 8gb iPod nano. I wanted red but needed instant gratification, so I went with black. Red is only available online or at Apple stores, and either option would have made me wait longer than I was willing. I later got a nifty case for it, and while the package says it’s red, it’s clearly pink. Pink or not, I think it’s pretty awesome. It’s my first mp3 player. I suppose I could have used my phone for that, but I think if I did, I’d be constantly charging the battery. I’d still been using an ancient cd player that didn’t even play mp3 cds. The iPod nano is a huge improvement, I’ve just been hesitating all these years to drop down that chunk of cash. My sister and I went to Wal-Mart and used her employee discount. And because I like her, I bought her a DVD player. It turned out that the DVD player didn’t play divx, so it went back to the store. I watched Jacob’s Ladder on my iPod the very first night I owned it.
I’ll just post the highlights of the rest of the weekend now because I’m getting lazy.
- Bought shoes for the squid that match my sister’s exactly, in accordance with the running joke that she’s a clone.
- Saw an awesome house.
- Realized my favorite (actually one of the few I like) RHCP song is Show Me Your Soul, and I first heard and loved it on the Pretty Woman soundtrack.
- Decided that Victoria’s Secret is the Bose of underware. All marketing and a high price tag that’s often confused for quality.
- Finished reading I Am Legend and Friday. Carrying around Tunnel in the Sky, but not committed to reading it just yet. Any book suggestions?
- Watched Zoot Suit in class. It was Robert Beltran’s film debut apparently. It was not a speaking part. Anyway, I liked it so much, I must own it.
I’m sure I missed something, but it doesn’t matter. I just wanted to write something because my memory fails me if I don’t.
