Yes, we did!

I am so freaking excited :D

Election day!

04Nov08

And what a day it’s starting to be. I just got off the phone with the rudest collections agent I’ve ever spoken to. Look, bill collectors, I get that I’m in the wrong here but there’s no reason to get nasty with me. Threats of garnishing my wages won’t work either, because just because you say you’ll do it doesn’t mean it’s legal to do so. It will not happen, this I know. So threaten all you like but don’t expect me to stay on the line to listen to it. And quit calling me at work! Verify my employment (another threat) and get on with it. I’ll spare you the sob story and just come out and say I can’t pay. All I ask is that you take that response at face value and quit trying to get me to agree to something I can’t possibly make happen. Do what you gotta do and I’ll do the same. Fuck! That call left a bad taste in my mouth.

So election day is here. I voted last week because I knew who I wanted to vote for and knew that if I didn’t do it while the early voting booths were in the lobby I probably wouldn’t get to it. So that’s done. I’ll spend the rest of my day watching the numbers on various news mediums.

And…I found out via IM status message that a friend is having a baby. Congrats buddy, you’ll be a great father :)

still alive

Halloween came and went and the squid still asks to go trick or treating at every quiet moment. She had a blast. I have pictures, but they’re safely tucked away in my camera. I’ll get them out eventually.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in Second Life, as usual, but you won’t see SL posts here anymore because my avatar has started her own blog. Does that make me a super nerd? No doubt, but I don’t care :P

Vote!

31Oct08

Today is the last day the early voting stations will be in the lobby at work. I voted yesterday, have you?

It’s Halloween, and for the first time in the squid’s short life I’m taking her trick-or-treating.  She’s 3 now and just old enough to really enjoy it. I guess the media is doing its job well because the squid seems to know all about Halloween this year without any input from me. She’s been talking about knocking on doors and getting candy from witches all month long.Last night we went costume shopping. We’d actually gone a few weeks ago, but my sister said she wanted to make something so I put off buying anything until it would be too late to make something. The squid didn’t know what she wanted to be, only that it had to be green. When we went shopping however, she was drawn to pink and purple costumes. The shopping was torturous because every store I took her to was either completely out of children’s costumes or only had a few tattered costumes with missing pieces left. I was about to give up but we drove by a Walgreen’s on the way home and stopped on a whim and found they had tons of costumes. I went home with a happy squid.

This weekend went by ridiculously fast. Didn’t go out on Friday because the squid was being a super brat. We went shopping on Saturday morning. Even though she’s been a little terror lately, I do like to take her out once in a while. Sometimes I think she acts that way when she’s just incredibly bored with being at home. We spent a while looking around for a Halloween costume but went home empty handed. She’s going trick or treating for the first time this year and is totally excited. After our failed attempt at procuring a costume, my sister said she’d make one. She’ll be stuck working that evening. I think she was looking forward to taking the squid trick or treating.

Anyway, after we got home my dad offered to watch the squid so I could visit Ennui Prayer in the hospital. Yay! He had lots to say about his stay. MD tried to go in at the same time I did, but they didn’t let her by with her son. She dropped him off at home with her brother and came back. Shortly after her arrival, she fainted! On her way to the ground she slammed her face into the wall and landed on a wheel of one of those stands that holds the IV bag. And then she started convulsing. We were there for a few hours. I finally told MD it was time to leave when the brother started with the sister-in-law comments. Either he’s out of the loop or I am. At any rate, it felt like it was time to go anyway. There were too many people in the room and my friend was looking pretty tired.

The rest of the day blew by. The squid was napping when I returned home and the parental units were planning a barbecue. Nothing big, just burgers for dinner. When the squid woke up we went to the store to get her a bed. She’s not too pleased about that but she sleeps in it anyway. Well, for most of the night.

I don’t feel like writing anymore.

EDIT:
Ennui Prayer is being released today! Yay :)

I need a super soaker.

To quote YouTube commenter RoyBatty42:

Man, the store had giant sale on Crazy and that woman maxed out the plastic…

In fact, there are a lot of good comments. My favorite was made by paulvcarter:

She forgot to say “He is a n*gger”

Basically.

The next two weeks will be interesting, and by interesting I mean filled with secretary drama. So not interesting at all. My supervisor is out working on election stuff, so the secretary is bugging me in her absence. She managed to piss me off before I even had a chance to get started. First thing she did this morning was ask me for work to do (um, ask your supervisor!). When I didn’t commit to giving her an assignment, she started talking about how she told the director that we want all the work for the students. I responded by saying she needs to talk to her supervisor about getting assignments because I’m busy with my own. She said she’d do that and talk to the assistant director as well. When I mentioned the incident to a coworker, she said the secretary had told her we don’t even need students because she could do their work. Ha! I tried training her to do what they do and she’s just useless. We can’t even have her do mindless work because she goes out of her way to make a simple task difficult. The boss had her alphabetizing something last week, and instead of doing it by hand she started typing out the titles so the computer could do it for her. And then she couldn’t figure out how to make the software do it so she asked me for help! So help me decide what to do, dear readers. The obvious answer is to eliminate her, but how?!

Now obviously I’m not going to kill her (or get someone else to do so), but if she dropped dead right now I wouldn’t much care. I would settle for her leaving early though. That would be awesome. I have never met someone who caused me so much grief.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day.

“You’ll never sleep at all”
But I don’t wanna be lonely

Never seen the sunshine
From higher points than sunrise
I don’t wanna be lonely
I just wanna be alone
